Southern Hospitality
The term ‘southern hospitality’ describes the particularly warm and sweet welcome that residents of the southern United States give to visitors of their home. And that description couldn’t be more apt for Rockwood Manor and the way in which we make each and every one of our guests feel at home while they are here.
Many of our guests are here to celebrate their wedding with family and friends and we want all of them to feel happy here at Rockwood Manor, and to make it a day to remember for all the right reasons.
A romantic destination
But the great experience that Rockwood Manor offers goes so much further than just our great hospitality. We specialize in weddings and anyone who has visited us before will know why! The bed and breakfast is architecturally a beautiful building that was constructed over 130 years ago.
It offers an extremely romantic venue with beautiful traditional porches with rocking chairs, patios, fireplaces, whirlpool tubs in the bathrooms and stunning grounds surrounding it all. In fact it is nestled in 68 acres of peaceful gardens. Many of our guests say it has a ‘Gone With The Wind’ charm about it. A perfect place to spend with a loved one, reuniting families, and making new family connections. A romantic haven.
Easy Access
Another string to our bow here at Rockwood Manor is that although you will feel a million miles away from everyday life while you are here, we are in fact incredibly easy to access. The I81 is just moments away offering quick and hassle free access to the rest of Virginia. This congestion-free road means we are just 45 minutes from Roanoke and only five minutes from New River Valley airport. This easy access once again makes it the ideal wedding venue as it means that it is easy for guests from all over the country to access, whether they are visiting for just the day itself, or making a mini-break of it. Even visitors from overseas will find it easy to get to Rockwood Manor as Richmond International Airport is less than three hours drive away. In fact many people even add a visit to Rockwood Manor as part of a cruise trip as the Port of Norfolk is easy to access. After spending some time on an ocean based vacation moving inland to Rockwood Manor provides the perfect contrast. The drive from Port of Norfolk is beautiful and the hassle-free roads of the I64 and I81S mean that the journey is smooth and swift. This is an incredibly popular option with our newly wedded couples. After celebrating here at Rockwood with their friends and family, many couples head to Port of Norfolk to join a cruise for a special honeymoon together. There is a huge variety of cruise liners offering a range of romantic destinations for honeymooners to select from. The world is your oyster!
Plenty to keep your wedding guests busy
No matter how you get to Rockwood Manor you will be spoiled for choice when you come to decide what to do while you are here. The bride and groom will probably be busy with last minute preparations before the wedding, and then heading off on their honeymoon soon after the wedding, but the wedding guests will have plenty to keep them occupied. If you are looking for a bit of action and adventure then Randolph Park is the place for you offering swimming and walking among other activities. It is located near the Dublin Rt 81 exit. If you’re a baseball fan then you should take the time to visit the historic Calfee Baseball Park in Pulaski. If you feel the need for speed then visit The Motor Mile Speedway and Dragway. If you have kids with you then a visit to the New River Valley Fairgrounds will keep them occupied for hours! Or if getting back to nature is more your style then make sure both Jefferson National Forest and Gatewood Reservoir are on your must see list.
Come rain or shine
Virginia is a year-round destination with something to offer everyone no matter what time of year you visit. All four seasons are romantic in their own individual way. In the New River Valley the hottest months are July and August, with the coolest months being December, January and February. These seasonal differences mean that our beautiful landscape changes throughout the year offering residents and visitors a constantly changing backdrop to enjoy their time here to. During the drier summer months it is the golf courses, nature reserves and hiking trails that are popular. Then during the colder winter months other activities take over, such as Winter Place Ski Resort, the antique shops, museums and theaters as well as cozy, romantic dinners in our wonderful restaurants.
You won’t want to leave
Our beautiful bed and breakfast will be the perfect romantic setting for your wedding, and you may just find that our Southern Hospitality means you want to stay just a little bit longer…
